    Get ready for BALIFE2022!

    January 8, 2022 /

Happy New Year to everyone …and what a great year it’s going to be with BALIFE2022 just five short months away. By 26th May 2022, the sun will be shinning… (well, hopefully! We do live in Scotland and in the month of May the sun is never guaranteed) …the nights will be lighter, and we’ll be full of enthusiasm for a day full of expectation, learning and innovation. The success of BALIFE 2021 Last year, 2021, saw us complete our first BALIFE event and, despite having to ‘go virtual’ thanks to Covid, it was a great success. And don’t just take my word for it, here is what some of…

A celebration of Business Analysts for Global BA Day

    November 1, 2021 /

Let’s start with a quote from this year’s European Business Analyst of the Year… What I enjoy most about being a Business Analyst; I could really talk at length on this topic! To keep it short and sweet, every day I encounter new challenges and get to work alongside great people, helping to solve problems and make improvements. There is something very gratifying about this – particularly when I get to see the impact I have had! Rebecca Richmond-Smith – European Business Analyst of the Year 2021 (Click to visit Rebecca’s LinkedIn profile) The makeup of a Business Analyst Well, if you can’t celebrate being a Business Analyst on Global…

What a difference a day makes

    September 25, 2021 /

Particularly if that day is an exceptional one like Sunday 12th September, the day of the Great North Run! Perhaps it’s a little unfair to say this all happened in one day, but it was the culmination of 18 months worth of hard work, by me, my close friends and family, and you… my brilliant and very generous donators. Because on 12th September 2021, after waiting two years since the last one, I finally ran in the 40th Anniversary Great North Run …and in doing so, earned a load of money for the wonderful mental health charity MIND. What a crazy few weeks, filled with training runs, friends visiting, presenting…

To BA or not to BA? …that is the question

    August 25, 2021 /

In mid-September, my colleague Gary Cockburn and I will be running an interactive workshop at the European BA Conference called “Virtual Pace, Virtual Space”. Creating this talk has inevitably lead to the age-old discussion which can be best characterised by a question like ‘Is there still a place for a Business Analyst in this new seemingly more technical world of virtual development, online companies and in some cases online products?’ Naturally, as a BA my answer is going to be a resounding YES! FACT: Remote working and the new virtual world is increasing the distance between the customer (end-user) and the business. This means getting closer to your customer and…

Day 8: Returned vans and the editor’s cuts!

    July 16, 2021 /

This is the final blog (what’s that I hear you say “Awwwwwwwww, say it isn’t so!” …or was it, “At last, I thought it would never end!” …tsk, cheeky!). This is a brief look back at our final morning as we made our way back to Livingston. Before reflecting on a few stories from the week that were cut out, shredded on the editor’s floor, along with some random pics that didn’t make the first cut. So yet again my morning started like every morning this week with an early morning walk along the beach. The weather was a little brighter today, although it was still damp following yesterday’s rain.…

Day 7: From rollercoasters to traffic jams

    July 15, 2021 /

Our final day’s journey took us back south toward home. Starting on the crazy Applecross Rollercoaster before hitting busy towns with long queuing traffic, something we hadn’t encountered for days. Another thing we hadn’t seen for days was rain, this hit us just as we arrived at our final stopover! I overslept a bit today, sleeping too long for me to walk over THAT road! Oh well, I guess I’ll ride in the campervan after all! 😉 But… I still got out for a short walk, down to the seafront, heading in the opposite direction to the way we’d walked yesterday to the pub. It was a lovely gentle walk…

    Day 6: The Applecross Rollercoaster

    July 14, 2021 /

The sixth day of our Magical Mystery Tour took us over a small (yet significant) bridge to a stunning castle, through amazing scenery bathed in glorious sunshine (in fact, you would think we were driving around the Italian lakes!), onto the Applecross Rollercoaster! I was up early again for my morning walk; after all the food last night, it needed to be a good one to give me some decent exercise. And it was a great walk …helped along by waking up to a cloudless sky and brilliant sunshine. I headed out and down through the village of Dunvegan to a place I had spotted the day before, which I…

Day 5: Fairy Glens and Misty Mountains

    July 13, 2021 /

If the previous day, Mikey and I were a little underwhelmed by Skye, then Day 5 totally changed our minds. Touring around in just one van with our good friends, we had a lovely day, discovering small hills and giant mountains, experiencing yet more awesome food …and there was the curious case of the missing waterfall too! I was up early again and set off for an early morning walk leaving the rest snoring as usual (I can only vouch for Mikey’s snoring, not Pete and Fi’s)! – This morning I headed uphill past the campsite and away from the village. To be honest, it was quite an uneventful walk,…

Day 4: Over the hills and far away

    July 11, 2021 /

Another suitcase in another town… After a day of travelling and fantastic, if at times a little barren, scenery we arrived at Kinloch Campsite in Dunvegan on Skye. Sitting at the head of Loch Dunvegan it has simply stunning views out across the lock (Is this getting repetitive yet? …of course not!) – Oh and we went out to eat that evening, but more of that later! To say I was reluctant to leave this morning is an understatement, it’s only the need to pay homage to Fi’s brilliant itinerary that drove us forward. That and the knowledge that having had this taster we know we’ll be back. Today, before…
