Ladies on Tour – The Sequel!
Dearest Gentle Reader,
You’ll be forgiven for thinking… – Ooops sorry. I’ve been watching too much Bridgerton when I should have been writing my holiday blog!
So where was I? Oh yes…
You’ll be forgiven for thinking there’d be no blog this year. After all, it’s been months since Fi and I returned from our last epic adventure.
What can I say, since then life has been jam-packed!
On top of that, I’ve been struggling with where to begin this sequel. But I have finally settled on a quick introduction …or should that be an “explanation”?
…because I think I best explain how we got from a week in Lanzarote in February 2023 to a two-week two-centre extravaganza in Cuba in February 2024!
The rationale is quite straightforward really (even if our bank balances were feeling the pain!)
Lanzarote was FAB-U-LOUS …well, hey, you read the blog!
You did read the blog, didn’t you?!
When we got talking afterwards, we agreed we “absolutely must do it again …only better!”
Besides avoiding the obvious no-passport disaster and Day of the Neds, there are a couple of things that would make a brilliant holiday even better.
First off, sunshine! And a lot more of it!
(because in February even the Canary Islands can be chilly and rainy …so should you decide to visit then, consider yourself forewarned!)
Secondly, be away for a bit longer, 10 days would be perfect.
When we researched these two small, teeny-weeny changes, (by moving the time out and adding a few days!) – OMG! – the cost was almost double the previous year!
So, as you do, we looked at where else we could go for a similar price and came up with …you guessed it …Cuba! 😊
But (there is always a but), that was the basic cost, and once we started to include add-ons, things started to escalate …a bit.
(Mikey suggests I should change this to the more accurate “A LOT!”)
…but hey, we had made our decision and we were on a roll 😉
Flights from the UK went weekly, so we pushed the trip out to two weeks. Oh, and the closest flight for us was from Manchester, so we’d need return train tickets to Manchester and an overnight stay on the way out!
We then agreed, what was the point of going to Cuba and not seeing Havana?!
So, we included a couple of days in Havana in the trip …later adding a walking tour and a vintage car tour to the trip.
The small additions kept flowing and soon our innocent ‘comparable little holiday’ became an epic once-in-a-lifetime trip!
…well, that is until the next once-in-a-lifetime trip!
Now we had our holiday planned out and organised – and let me tell you it was VERY well planned, even our day trips were organised! – we just had to make sure we had all our visas, compulsory medical, and passports in order …ready for our departure from Manchester airport (given Fi’s now infamous history this was not a foregone conclusion!)
It’s fair to say, we weren’t going to be happy until we were through security and boarding the plane! So, with that explanation/introduction in place, check out how we got on in ‘Ladies on Tour – The Cuba Blog’ 😉
